Differentiation
As a special education certified pre-service teacher, I recognize the essential need for differentiation within the classroom. With students having varied learning styles and preferences, as well as unique needs, differentiating instruction is the best way to meet the needs of all students. In order to address the unique needs of students, finding ways to reach these students that does not change the content, but rather the delivery is essential.
Differentiation-Providing students with different learning opportunities to meet the unique learning needs of each individual in a collective classroom environment.
1. Group students by similar interests or learning styles.
2. Flexible seating in the room.
3. Learning centers around the room.
4. Use formative assessments such as "thumbs up if you understand" to see who needs supplemental help.
5. Use collaborative learning to allow for diverse learning styles to put their heads together and collaborate on work.
