As a future educator, I believe it is essential to connect with your students. It is also important to have a mutual respect between both educator and learner. In a student-centered classroom, the teacher needs to be aware of their students’ learning styles to create effective lessons. The teacher should ensure that all learning modalities are addressed so that all students are reached. Educators also need to differentiate lessons for ELL, special needs, or students who are either excelling or struggling with content. By addressing students’ learning styles and differentiating lessons, the teacher is addressing the unique differences in students as individuals and, consequently, engaging their hearts and minds.
Finding ways to engage our students is something I aspire to do every day in my future classroom because I know I was a more successful learner when I was engaged, connected, and interested in the lesson being taught. As teachers, I believe it is our job to educate even the most difficult students. In my opinion, lack of achievement in the classroom can usually be contributed to a lack of effort or connection on the teacher’s part. Not all students learn the same, and finding the appropriate way to reach a student is part of our duty.
I believe we can address student’s needs and still make learning fun. I believe most students genuinely want to learn, but it is our job to find the way to reach all our students. As students get older, there is going to be a difference in how we need to reach them, and staying up to date on popular culture is another way teachers can stay relevant to their students.
